Fragmented Memories
On dreams, faces, and fading moments
I don’t understand nuclear energy
I sat by the fire and stared at a nuclear facility plant on the horizon. I thought about all the time I have wasted, and my body felt colder momentarily. There was something on the horizon that I could not understand. The future awaited me, and I could see it in the distance. The fire burned and covered me in gray smoke. The reactor in the distance produced a similar smog, and I wondered where all my time went. Everyone around the fire seemed so certain. They stared at the nuclear reactor and spoke about their dreams. The fire kept me warm.
Visage
I wonder if one day all of the faces that I love will become nothing but blurs. If all of the names that are second-nature to me will cause my tongue trouble, and be nothing more than sounds I have made. Such pretty sounds. I hope that I remember their smiles, and that they know me as more than the eyes that I used to admire them. Such wonderful eyes. If feeling is all that is left, may it last forever. Faces from my past, smiles of my future. I can’t imagine it without you. But I must. And may forever feel like right now, and may right now be forever.

Will I ever see you? I want to know you. Fly away from me. I used to know you. Do you know me? You look new. I don’t recognize you. But I still love you. Bound to you. Bound? Become something. Something? If I get too close to you. I will fly away. Why must you go? I cannot stay. You cannot stay. I see your patterns. The patterns that make you. I see you as you are. You see me as you want. Beauty is perspective. My eyes see more color. I want to be like you. I would love to be like you. Do I have to say goodbye? You must. Will I see you again? I will change.
Accompaniment
I have this dream where life did not drift us apart, and you still laugh with vigor iconic to you. In this life, you teach me how to play guitar. You show me every chord and note that you know, and I replicate them as best as I can. And I forget to tell you that I learned long ago, when I had hope in my eyes that I no longer see in yours. You tell me about your favorite bands and play your favorite solos while I blame the guitar for draining your life away. But it was never the music. In this life, I teach you how to live. I show you all of the reasons to be, and you put down the guitar. And both of us learn nothing.
